PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the project is to provide hydrologic analysis, alternatives assessment, updated hydraulics, and recommend a conceptual design. The project goals include:
  • Update hydrology in the basin
  • Identify existing flooding and drainage issues within the study area
  • Obtain input from the public, stakeholders, and the project sponsors to develop feasible solutions
  • Recommend conceptual stormwater conveyance and detention improvement measures

PROJECT AREA The Buffalo Run watershed is a tributary of the Third Creek watershed with a total drainage area of 2.67 square miles located within Commerce City, Colorado. Buffalo Run passes through the Buffalo Run Golf Course and neighboring developments. Buffalo Run is bounded by the crown of E 104th Ave to the South, a ridge line between the Columbine Ranches development and E-470 to the West. Chambers road, the Buffalo Run Village Center, Cameron Drive, and the O’Brian Canal bound Buffalo Run, to the East. The O’Brian Canal, Burlington Ditch, and E-470 bound Buffalo Run to the North. Plans for future development indicate that the grasslands on the eastern portion of the watershed will become medium-intensity developed area.
